Ngwaabe Circuit pupils engage in debate competition

The competition was won by Shopiane Primary School.

Steelpoort’s Gatsheni Lifeway Hope Organisation (GLHO) is investing in education.

This NPO, in partnership with the Limpopo Department of Education, held its inaugural debate competition for local schools in Fetakgomo Tubatse on May 17. The competition included five schools of the Ngwaabe Circuit. The participants were Maelebe, Shopiane, Legapane, Ngwanatheko and Kgoboko primary schools.

Hosted at Kgoboko, the objective of this debate was to build confidence, promote public speaking and encourage learners to do research on certain topics. The topic for the day was ‘How does load-shedding affect our education system?’

The Shopiane pupils excelled with public speaking and were confident in their presentations. The school was chosen as the best for the day, being honoured with a trophy and gold medals. Other participating schools took home educational goodies, stationery and medals for being part of the debate. The judging panel motivated the learners and urged them to study hard.

“We learn every day, and learners should use all the tools to educate themselves, and not let social media distract them,” said one of the judges.

Speaking after the event, the organiser and director of the GLHO, Pr Themba Ndlovu, said: “It’s our passion to impact and improve education locally. We thank all our sponsors. The event wouldn’t be a success without their contributions and support.”

Some of the sponsors for the event included  Zizwe, Pick n Pay Steelpoort, EDG Steelpoort, Chesa nyama Steelpoort, Panarottis, All health pharmacy  and Feed the child org.

Ndlovu said they are planning to have more of these competitions to improve education in Steelpoort and neighbouring communities.

Gatsheni was founded in February 2021 by Themba and his wife, Ellah, with the objective of bringing hope to the local communities.
