New executive head for Curro Nelspruit takes the lead

There is officially a new executive head at Curro Nelspruit, as former head of the high school, Nico Bronkhorst, has made the step up to lead the way.

Curro Nelspruit announced the appointment of Nico Bronkhorst as the school’s new executive head, effective as of July 1.

As a graduate of North-West University, Bronkhorst holds a bachelor of commerce honours degree with majors in strategic marketing, human resources management and strategic management, and brings immeasurable experience and expertise to the role.

The Mpumalanga native is a well-known figure within the wider Curro family, having joined the group as the head of high school at Curro Bankenveld in January 2016.

Under his tenure, the school saw significant improvements in academic performance and community relations, and by July 2018, Bronkhorst was appointed as the executive head at Curro Kathu, before later transitioning to Curro Nelspruit as the head of high school in October 2019.

Prior to joining Curro, Bronkhorst’s career in education commenced with lecturing economics and business management at Pretoria Technikon and the Tshwane University of Technology, before being promoted to vice principal of Cambridge Academy in 2006.

Bronkhorst’s approach to education extends beyond academics. He is passionate about extracurricular activities and holds coaching qualifications in cricket, rugby and athletics. His commitment to sports is reflected in his personal achievements, including completing two Comrades Marathons and playing provincial rugby for the Mpumalanga Pumas.

Commenting on the appointment, Shaun McMurtry, a business executive of Curro Holdings, said: “Nico’s impressive credentials combined with his deep commitment to educational excellence and community engagement make him a fitting choice for this crucial role.

“His ability to craft strong, healthy relationships within the community is a hallmark of his leadership style, and we are confident that with him at the helm, the school will continue to thrive and uphold its vision of excellence. We are very excited to see the positive impact Nico will undoubtedly have and invite the community to join us in welcoming and supporting him in his new role.”
