More than ten suspects arrested in SAPS operation in Bushbuckridge

Operation Shanela is focused on curbing the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and drug-dealing activities.

The provincial police’s Operation Shanela has produced more positive results as more than ten suspects were arrested in Bushbuckridge on August 24 for possession of unlicenced firearms with ammunition, the illegal possession of dagga and contravention of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002 of South Africa.

According to the provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the operation was mostly focused on Ehlanzeni and covering areas such as Bushbuckridge and Pienaar.

The operation is aimed at controlling the possession of illegal firearms and drug-related activities.

“During the operation, a total of three suspects were arrested, aged between 34 and 40, for possession of unlicensed firearms with ammunition in the Shatale and Dwarsloop areas, respectively. Additionally, a 31-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the dealing of dagga in Bushbuckridge. An additional eight other suspects were nabbed for contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa,” he said.

Mdhluli added that all the suspects are expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court today, August 26.
