Malalane women take time out for wellness session

The Women's Health and Wellness event encouraged women to take some time off from their busy schedules and focus on their well-being.

Pilates, aerobics and trampoline workouts were the order of the day during the Women’s Health and Wellness event hosted at Riverview Preparatory School in Malalane on August 24.

The gathering was aimed at bringing women together with the focus on their health and wellness while celebrating Women’s Month. The attendees made sure to stick to the theme, which was exercise gear with a touch of pink.

“The event was primarily a fundraiser for the school, but we decided to take it beyond that and celebrate the women while giving them time to exercise and take care of their health. We are also celebrating women in business; they have put a lot of time and effort into their business and they are here to showcase it to their fellow women. We have also organised different speakers to talk to the women about various feminine topics such a beauty, style and health,” said Marcella Carleo, the event’s organiser and a mum at the school.

A daycare facility was also provided for the mothers who brought little ones to the event.

“This is a reminder for women to take some time off from the many activities they do on a daily basis. It’s about them taking the time to just breathe while catching up with other women. They can shop, exercise and mingle over a cup of coffee, all in one. We have also asked the ladies to bring a feminine hygiene product so we can donate to women in need. There has been amazing support in that regard,” she added.

According to the chairperson of the parent-teacher association, Kierryn Harris, this could be an annual event.

“This is a space to make women feel good, cared for and seen. We are pleased with the good turnout; we have been completely blown away by the level of support we have received so far. This event was a stepping stone to a potential annual event, which might even get bigger with more sponsorship. The ladies have enjoyed themselves while participating in the different activities prepared for them and exercising some retail therapy on the vendors available here,” said Harris.
