Lydenburg walkathon a tremendous success

Community members from all walks of life recently participated in this charity initiative.

The recent Walk 4 Jesus event was nothing short of extraordinary, raising vital funds for Estralita Special School.

This 12-hour walkathon not only exceeded fundraising expectations, but brought the community together in a remarkable display of support and camaraderie.

Participants from all walks of life took part in this event on Hoërskool’s Lydenburg’s rugby field, which kicked off at 18:00 on Friday, Octboer 4. Families, friends and local organisations came together to walk, run and cheer, turning the event into a vibrant celebration of community spirit.

With live music, food stalls and engaging activities, the atmosphere was electric, creating a festive environment that motivated everyone to push through the 12 hours.

The organisers set a bold fundraising goal, aiming to secure essential resources for the school.

Through sponsorships, donations and enthusiastic participation, the event surpassed its target, raising significant funds to support the educational and developmental needs of the learners.

Walk 4 Jesus’s success highlighted the importance of inclusivity and the positive influence of supporting special needs education.

The event not only raised funds, but also awareness about the challenges faced by special education institutions and the importance of community involvement, marking a significant milestone for Estralita Special School and the community at large.

The two winners of the walkathon were Vollies Jeug with the theme of deafness and Lydenburg Hoërskool highlighting hydrocephalus. Altogether 10 469 laps were recorded and a distance of 4 187km was walked during the event.
