UPDATE: N4 near Hemlock towards Emgwenya now open

The road was completely closed due to the accident involving two trucks, but the scene has since been cleared.

The N4 near Hemlock towards Emgwenya (formerly Waterval Boven) is now open for traffic.The road was closed due to an accident involving two trucks today, October 24.

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said the cause of the accident is currently unknown, however, an investigation is under way. Meanwhile, both drivers of the trucks have been admitted to Kiaat Hospital for further medical assistance.

 

UPDATE: N4 near Hemlock towards Emgwenya partially open (08:45)

The N4 near Hemlock towards Emgwenya (formerly Waterval Boven) is operating on a stop-go system to allow traffic to flow after the road was closed due to an accident involving two trucks today, October 24.

According to Martin Jeffrey of Emer-G-Med, they transported the two drivers to the hospital, with one being on life support.

Meanwhile, the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said motorists are advised to drive with caution when approaching the area as there are still a lot of debris on the road. The emergency personnel are working to clear the scene.

“The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage, however, an investigation is under way. We are also calling on motorists to be cautious on the road, especially when it rains. They must keep a reasonable distance, overtake only when it is safe to do so and adhere to the rules of the road. We wish a speedy recovery to the two drivers,” he said.

Mmusi also said to avoid delays, motorists are advised to use the N4 via Schoemanskloof.
