Is your prepaid electricity meter upgraded – here’s how to check!

Eskom is reminding all prepaid customers to check whether their meters have been upgraded.

Eskom is once again urging all prepaid electricity customers to recode their meters by November 24, as required by the Standard Transfer Specification Association.

After this deadline, meters that have not been upgraded will cease to accept electricity tokens.

To check whether your prepaid meter has been recoded or upgraded to Key Revision Number (KRN) 2 or if it’s still on KRN1, you will need to enter the code 1844 6744 0738 4377 2416 on your meter’s keypad.

The screen will display either the number one (1) or two (2); in some cases, there may also be alphabetic letters alongside the KRN.

If it says 1, your meter is still on KRN1 and needs to be recoded or upgraded to KRN2.

The number 2 indicates that your meter has already been recoded or upgraded to KRN2. Your credit token slip will also reflect KRN2 when you purchase electricity.

Customers requiring further assistance may log a query on alfred.eskom.co.za.
