WEATHER UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms expected to continue in Lowveld

Residents are advised to remain indoors, to avoid crossing flooded areas and to remain on high-lying ground.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit Bushbuckridge, Barberton, Sabie and Nkomazi from 14:00 to 23:00 on Tuesday, October 29.

According to the SAWS, this will result in damaging winds, heavy downpours and large amounts of small hail.

Major travel disruptions are expected.

According to Ishmael Moyo, a forecaster of WeatherSA, there is a 60% chance for thundershowers from the afternoon going into the evening.

The thunderstorms could result in the flooding of roads, settlements and low-lying areas, resulting in the closure of some bridges and roads, and damage or loss of infrastructure, settlements (formal and informal), property, vehicles, livelihood and livestock.

Yesterday it was reported that the cut-off low pressure system is still dominating over the southern parts of South Africa. Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected, but will be widespread along the south coast on Tuesday, October 29.
