Avoid blackouts during festive season, update your meter box
Prepaid electricity meter users need to ensure their meters are upgraded before November 24.

Eskom customers whose meters have not been updated will be in the dark as purchased tokens will not reflect after November 24.
Only nine days left before the country’s prepaid meter token identifier (TID) codes expire. To void blackouts during the festive season, prepaid owners should update their meter box. Customers first need to check if their meters are upgraded.
How to verify if your meter has been updated:
• Dial i057 on your Landis meter. If you see the code 2.2, your meter has been updated.
• Dial #005# on your Conlog meter. If you see the code R2, your meter has been updated.
Another option order to check whether your meter has been recoded or upgraded to KRN2 or is still on KRN1, enter the code 1844 6744 0738 4377 2416 on your prepaid meter’s keypad. The screen will display either the number 1 or 2 and in some cases, there may also be alphabetic letters alongside the KRN number.
If a customer discovers the meter is not up to date, they should immediately buy electricity.
After purchasing, the customer will receive three tokens that must be loaded into the meter sequentially.
The process of buying electricity remains unchanged. Customers can still purchase electricity from major banks, online platforms, fuel stations, prepaid electricity vending agents and retailers across the country, as they currently do.

Three very important steps to recode the meter:
1. Key in the first 20 digits of your recode token and wait for it to be accepted.
2. Key in the second 20 digits of your recode token and wait for it to be accepted.
3. Key in the last 20 digits of your purchased token to recharge your meter.
The City of Mbombela (CoM) reminds customers that the recoding of meters is done at no cost to customers and warns them to be cautious about scammers who may attempt to take advantage of the recoding process and request payment for this service.
The municipality has a 24-hour dedicated call centre that will be able to provide assistance to clients. The CoM will also have technicians on standby to assist with technical expertise. Call centre: 013 759 9303 to 9307.
The CoM identified some areas as critical as these have a high number of meters that have not been upgraded: Mataffin, Msholozi and Tekwane North and West. All these areas should follow the steps as outlined above, just as all the other prepaid meter users.
