Mbombela’s electricity shutdown cancelled

One of the reasons the shutdown was postponed is the fact that many learners are still writing their year-end exams.

The planned 32-hour electricity shutdown in some parts of the City of Mbombela (CoM) has been postponed until further notice.

The CoM’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, has confirmed that the municipality’s Department of Energy’s planned shutdown has been postponed to a later date.

“One of the reasons they postponed the shutdown is because we are in the middle of the matric exams. Some community members complained that the shutdown was not well communicated with them. However, the shutdown must take place so that we can do the upgrade at the West Acres Block 14 substation. We will announce it in time so that residents can prepare themselves,” he said.

The interruption of electricity supply was planned from 09:00 on Wednesday, November 20, until 17:00 on Thursday, November 21, in order to allow the installation of new switchgear and to do maintenance work on substation equipment. West Acres, The Rest Nature Estate, Sonheuwel, Stonehenge, Geelhout Avenue and surrounding areas would have been affected.
