Scammer uses Lydenburg-based NPO’s name for cash donations

Toinette Finlay Keel of Wings of Gratitude has condemned this scam and warns the public to not fall prey to it.

Lydenburg residents and businesses are warned about a man falsely claiming to raise money for a local non-profit organisation, Wings of Gratitude.

The scammer reportedly approaches individuals and businesses with a sponsorship sheet, asking for monetary donations in support of this organisation.

Toinette Finlay Keel, the founder of Wings of Gratitude, has strongly condemned this fraudulent activity and clarified that the organisation does not solicit funds in any form. “I work alone and never ask for money to support Wings of Gratitude,” she emphasised.

She urged residents not to fall victim to this scam and to remain vigilant. She said the scammer appears to be exploiting the goodwill of the community and the trust Wings of Gratitude has earned through its work.

Finlay Keel expressed her frustration over the misuse of the organisation’s name, which is dedicated to supporting vulnerable members of the community.

Residents are advised to report any encounters with the scammer to the authorities. “This individual does not represent Wings of Gratitude in any way,” Finlay Keel stated.

If approached, community members are urged not to provide any personal or financial information. The activity has been reported to the local authorities.
