Gate quotas in force for day visitors to Kruger National Park during festive season
Pre-booked guests will be given first priority to enter the Kruger National Park
South African National Parks (SANParks) would like to remind day visitors to the Kruger National Park (KNP) that during the upcoming festive season gate quotas will be in place.
Visitors are urged to book online ahead of their visit.
According to the spokesperson for the KNP, Isaac Phaahla, the day visitor quota for the park is a management tool to prevent overcrowding of roads and facilities. “It is applied throughout the year, although we mostly reach capacity during long weekends and school holidays,” he said.
He stressed that pre-booking is crucial for day visitors as it would allow them first priority of the day visitor quota per gate.
Pre-booked day visitors are prioritised at the gates, but must arrive within their booked time slots. Late arrivals will be treated as non-booked and will not receive preference. It is also important to note that Wild Card members are not exempt from the pre-booking fee.

Once the daily quota has been reached, only people who have pre-booked will be allowed to enter. The rest will have to queue and rely on visitors exiting the park to open up an opportunity for them to enter. This arrangement does not affect overnight guests.
Day visitors who have pre-booked will still be required to pay conservation fees or use a valid Wild Card to enter the park. SA residents, as well as those from Zimbabwe and Mozambique, will need to produce either their IDs or passports to verify their status. The cost is R128 per adult and R64 per child between ages of two and 11.
For Eswatini nationals, as well as other SADC countries’ residents, conservation fees are R257 per adult and R128 per child.
The conservation fees of R535 for adults and R257 for children apply to all other guests.

There are secure and convenient cash-free payment systems operational at the Paul Kruger, Phabeni, Numbi, Malelane and Crocodile Bridge gates. This system ensures a smooth and problem-free entry and exit.
Vehicles without license plates will not be allowed to enter or exit the park at any gates. Any vehicle found inside the KNP without front and/or rear license plates will be impounded and the driver will be charged under the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, and fined.
Special attention is also drawn to operational times as it pertains to the gate quotas:
• Time slot 1: 05.30 to 08:00
• Time slot 2: 08:00 to 10:00
• Time slot 3: 10:00 onwards
