Manhunt called off as absconder hands himself over to Mbombela police

Donald Sipho Khoza had gotten away during an SAPS operation to apprehend him on December 15.

A Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, has confirmed that 41-year-old Donald Sipho Khoza handed himself over to the Nelspruit SAPS on Wednesday, December 18.

Khoza, an absconder, has been on the run since Sunday, December 15, when he fought with some police officers during an operation to apprehend him and took a service firearm from one of them. Mdhluli said the firearm was recovered later that same day.

A warrant for Khoza’s arrest had been issued on December 10 as he had violated his parole. Khoza was convicted for rape and murder.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the fugitive is now rearrested. He is currently at a correctional centre for further legal processing. It is anticipated that he will appear in court as the investigation continues,” Mdhluli said.

“The investigators, in partnership with some of the Department of Correctional Services’ officials, are continuing their collaborative efforts to determine the appropriate charges against the parolee, which may include robbery of a state firearm and other related offences,” he concluded.
