Service delivery protest at Waterval Boven tunnel, accident in Schoemanskloof cut off traffic to Lowveld

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.

Access to the Lowveld is currently severely restricted due to service delivery protests on the N4 near the Waterval Boven tunnel and a road accident in the Schoemanskloof.

The N4 at the tunnel has been barricaded with burning tyres and rocks by residents from Elands Valley protesting for water supply and against the poor state of some roads in the area today, December 18. The police are on the scene in an effort to disperse them so that the road can be cleared and reopened for traffic.

Meanwhile, an accident that involved multiple vehicles between the Old Joe Monument and Patatanek in the Schoemanskloof caused the westbound lane to be closed, and the road is operating on a stop-and-go basis. Emergency personnel are currently on the scene. Motorists are advised to drive with caution when approaching the area.
