The case has been postponed to January 9 for formal bail application. Meanwhile, the police are still searching for a third suspect.

Two men appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on Friday, January 3, for allegedly shooting and killing two people.

Their case has been postponed to January 9 for formal bail application.

Sifiso Zulu (45) and Sifiso Nyandeni (39) are facing murder charges after they were arrested in connection with a double murder on Wednesday, January 1. The victims, two 21-year-old men, were shot dead inside a Toyota Avanza that was parked in front of a club in Ermelo.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the suspects were driving in a Mercedes-Benz Class A when they approached the victims and suddenly fired several shots at them.

“The suspects fled the scene after the incident. One victim passed away upon arrival at the hospital, while the other one died due to his injuries shortly after.”

According to the police, a third suspect is still at large, but it is just a matter of time before he is arrested, too.

Mdhluli added that a firearm believed to have been used during the incident was recovered yesterday, January 3. The gun was found in the Mercedes during further investigation by the police.

“The weapon will undergo ballistic testing as part of the probe. The police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspects as the investigation continues,” Mdhluli said.
