Hazyview PID needs help to catch and sterilise stray cats
It costs R550 to sterilise one cat.
Hazyview Pets in Distress (PID) needs assistance to catch and sterilise stray cats, especially at the Lowveld and Junction malls.
According to Vivien MacKay of PID, they have recently been catching cats at these malls and getting them sterilised as per community requests.

“The public is very concerned about the number of kittens that are being born and the cats getting sick. We appeal to the malls’ management to put it on their shop groups that any donations toward the sterilising would be greatly appreciated, as the PID cannot carry the costs alone. Doing this very necessary service is not only for the safety of the cats, but also the public’s. Inasmuch as our concern is for the cats, PID is carrying costs it can ill afford. It’s R550 per cat, R350 for the catcher, and then transport costs,” MacKay said.

The malls are supported by the community, now they are asking them to assist the community in return by ensuring that these cats are taken care of.
“It is the responsibility of businesses, communities and individuals to ensure that there is no breakout of disease, and in the event of a cat not being well, the vet treats them. Let’s work together to make this happen. Hazyview is a town that loves animals, both wild and domesticated. If we curb the births in the years to come, we will not have the overpopulation we have today,” she said.
MacKay also said they do have a vet to support the initiative, and they work very hard to make it happen. They are not funded, but depend on donations, and they are calling members of the public to make some in the form of money or animal food.
