SANDF soldier killed in the DRC to be buried in Burgersfort

Molapo's burial will be attended by the Limpopo MEC for sports, arts and culture, Funani Jerry Maseko.

One of the 14 SANDF soldiers killed in the DRC will be buried next to the Ntwampe Secondary School in Moroke, Burgersfort, tomorrow, February 22.

Family representatives of Lance Corporal Moffat Tseke Molapo (53) confirmed his burial date after a fortnight of uncertainty.

The Limpopo MEC for sports, arts and culture, Funani Jerry Maseko, is among those the Limpopo premier, Phophi Ramathuba, had delegated to attend the funeral.

Ramathuba and the MEC for health, Masesi Mashego, are expected to attend another burial of a departed soldier, Staff Sergeant Shwahlane Seepe, in Schoonoord in the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality.

These soldiers were killed in fierce fighting between the M23 rebels and the Congolese military in the eastern DRC about two weeks ago.

Their bodies were repatriated on February 12. The remains were handed over to the families at the Air Force Base Swartkop in Pretoria on February 13.

The ceremony was attended by President Cyril Ramaphosa and Defence Minister Angie Motshekga.

Meanwhile, Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s mayor, Eddie Maila, once again paid condolences to the Molapo family.

He urged all the residents of the municipality to lend their support and pray for the family to overcome the tragedy that has fallen upon them.

Maila said the manager in the Office of the Mayor has been assigned to be part of the preparatory committee dealing with logistics for the funeral. He recently contributed two cows and some groceries to the family.
