Lowvelders’ app encourages learners to love maths
The Funda Bozza app provides questions for maths and maths literacy that learners are expected to answer and winners are rewarded.
In an effort to encourage learners to love mathematics, two Lowvelders, Dacod Magagula and Tao Boyle, created an app to assist learners from grades eight to 12.
Magagula has a degree in computer science, while Boyle has a degree in economics. They both obtained their qualifications at the University of Cape Town.
According to Magagula, the app has various levels of difficulty with questions for learners to answer.

“Learners can answer maths or maths literacy questions daily and win a prize. We introduced the prizes to encourage learners to participate. The goal is to encourage them to love maths, since it’s one of the subjects that some pupils are afraid to take,” he said.

Since its establishment, more than one million questions have so far been answered on the Funda Bozza app, assisting thousands of pupils. All the winners worked hard to ensure they received their prizes. “Funda Bozza is free to download from the Google Play Store. It provides maths and maths literacy questions for grades eight to 12. Make sure it’s the free app. However, to answer questions, users need to have data on their device,” Magagula said.
He added that they have received many positive reviews from users.
Learners are encouraged to try the app to test their math skills.
