City of Mbombela’s Service Delivery Drive delayed by rain

Some residents in Mbombela still complain that their grievances have not been resolved.

The City of Mbombela (CoM) is currently busy with its Service Delivery Drive (SDD), attending to each ward on a two-week basis.

With the recent rains, the officials who were working on issues in Mataffin, Rocky Drift and Msholozi (Ward 14), and eMbonisweni and Backdoor (Ward 38) have been disrupted. The drive was supposed to move to KaNyamazane this week, but it was postponed until next week while they finished some of the work that could not be completed.

Meanwhile, some residents are still complaining that their grievances were not addressed. The ward councillors claim they were promised the potholes in Dr Enos Mabuza Drive, Sering Street and Koraalboom Avenue, among others, will be repaired during the campaign, but they were not.

Despite making a call to the CoM and attending to them since, Mayor Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko said they will continue to do the work since service delivery is an ongoing thing. She requested that residents be patient with the municipality. “With this SDD, the municipality has proven it can see to its duties.”

The faulty traffic lights and the potholes in the city remain a challenge for motorists and residents.

The traffic lights in Belladonna and Anderson streets, which have been non-functional for several months, are still not fixed; the traffic lights on the N4 near Halls remain off.

The mayor insists the CoM will get to all the traffic lights, streetlights and potholes that are not working; they are not being ignored.
