Schoemansdal murder: Relatives in court for shooting former cop

The three accused remain in custody while investigations continue.

The three accused of murdering businessman and former Middelburg policeman, George Willis (80), have been remanded in custody.

Willis was fatally shot at his home in Schoemansdal at about 08:40 on Sunday, April 27.

The three accused are Willis’ wife, Nomvula Lucy Willis (75), his son, George Kenedy Willis (55), and grandson, Kenny Rudolph Willis (29).

The trio made their first appearance in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court earlier today, April 29. The case has been postponed to May 6 for a formal bail application.

According to a Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the victim’s son was attacked by two armed men wearing balaclavas when he arrived at his parents’ home for a visit.

“They tied him up with a cable and proceeded into the house where the victim was. They shot him at point-blank range before fleeing the scene in Willis’ son’s Mercedes-Benz. A murder case was opened and the investigation team worked tirelessly to gather evidence and track down the suspects. This led to the arrest of the three family members,” Mdhluli said.
