Long-awaited repairs to White River Library finally begin

The library in White River is finally being repaired after a two-year wait. Here's what residents and the municipality had to say.

After two years, long-awaited library repairs are finally under way.

It was closed after being damaged by the flooding in 2023. The building was declared unsafe for its staff and the public.

Khompho Trading Projects was appointed by the City of Mbombela (CoM) to undertake the R4m project. It is expected to be completed by July 8.

The CoM’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, confirmed that repairs have began. “The municipality had promised to repair the library, but proper planning was needed. We kept our promise and are hopeful repairs will be finished on time. We are calling on the community to work with the contractor and ensure the repairs are not disrupted,” he said.

“For the past two years, our only library has been closed. I hope it will be finished in time and the contractor will do a quality job. We have been pushing the CoM for a long time to fix it,” Heymans said.
