One dead and five injured in accident on KaNyamazane road

KaNyamazane road near MRTT College closed after fatal accident.

An accident on the KaNyamazane road near the MRTT College, today, Friday, July 4, claimed one life and left six others injured. The road is currently closed to traffic as emergency personnel remain on the scene.

The head-on collision involved a Kia Picanto light motor vehicle and a minibus taxi. According to Martin Jeffrey of Emer-G-Med, who responded to the call, the driver of the Kia Picanto was killed.

“Upon arrival, the driver of the light motor vehicle was declared dead at the scene. Five passengers were injured and were treated at the scene before being transported to hospital,” Jeffrey said

He added that the driver of the taxi, who was the alone of his vehicle, sustained critical injuries and was transported to hospital for medical treatment.

Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, confirmed that the road has been closed and advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid delays.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.
