Oranges looted after train hits truck in Ohrigstad

There were no serious injuries during the accident.

A Loutrans truck driver made a lucky escape when his vehicle was hit by a train at a railway crossing on the R555 at Maepa Village, Ohrigstad, at about 12:15 on August 1.

The driver escaped unscathed but his cargo – boxes of oranges – were looted by community members.

The Transnet goods train operators were also uninjured.

By 13:00, the busy road was still closed.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety’s spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, confirmed the R555 has been temporarily blocked to allow emergency services and clean-up teams to access the scene.
