Phoenix's name is a symbol of survival.
Kaapsehoop residents were overjoyed to welcome a new foal, Phoenix, who was born on Tuesday, October 7, to the area’s wild horse herd.
The spokesperson of the Kaapsehoop Wild Horse Fund subcommittee, Andrea Fourie, shared photos and confirmed the news on their Facebook page.

“Welcome little one, we hereby baptise you Phoenix, because you are a timeless symbol of survival.”

The newborn is an offspring of one of the stallions, Dennis, that was allegedly poached with three other horses on September 7.

The mare who bore him is also known as the af-oor mare since she lost her ear due to an old injury after a tick infestation.
