Care Buddies get festive with Lowveld seniors

The Care Buddies hosted their annual Christmas lunch with the elderly in White River.

Elderly residents of White , Macadamia Frail Care Centre, and Rustig Retirement Village and Frail Care Centre sat down for a delicious Christmas lunch with the Care Buddies in the NG Church hall last Thursday. The non-profit organisation hosted their annual lunch with beautifully decorated tables, twinkling lights and treat-filled gold-and-white angels.

Care Buddies volunteers donned red to share their excitement for the festive season and entertained guests with fun games and activities.

Seniors with far-away loved ones were encouraged to place a pin on a world map to show their location so they could be included in everyone’s thoughts and prayers, especially at a time when families want to feel close together.

Games included tossing rings onto Rudolph’s antlers and competing with other tables to see who can shout “Ho, ho ho!” the loudest. Gifts were then awarded for most enthusiastic dancers, best smile and many other fun spot prizes. Willie Nel provided live entertainment, singing Christmas favourites and golden oldies.

The tasty lunch included succulent beef roast, pasta, beetroot, and a fresh carrot and pineapple salad on the side. This was all sweetly finished off with ice-cream and chocolates.

The Care Buddies expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the community for their continuous support of White River’s elderly residents.

“This enables us to provide love, support and emotional care for the seniors,” said Care Buddies chairperson Christilida Luus.

The organisation celebrated its 22nd birthday this year and hopes to spread kindness for many more years to come.
