One victim was declared dead at the scene, while the other was severely injured and transported to hospital for medical treatment.

Calcutta police have arrested a 45-year-old man following a horrific incident that occurred in the Oakley Trust area on Saturday morning, November 22.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe confirmed that the arrest of Alfred Dumisani Shabalala came after a swift investigation into a case of murder and attempted murder at an Oakley RDP house.

“We received information from the neighbours, and police were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man’s body lying in a pool of blood inside the house. The victim had sustained severe injuries to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” she said.

“As part of the investigation, a crowbar believed to have been used in the attack was seized at the scene where the woman was found. Police acted swiftly, leading to Shabalala’s arrest,” she reported.

He appeared at the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on November 25, facing charges of murder and attempted murder.

The case has been postponed until Thursday, November 27, and the suspect remains in custody.
