IN PHOTOS: Lowveld Harley riders commemorate history with annual White Overall Run

No fewer than 10 local Harley riders took to the roads of the Lowveld for the ride.

The Harley Davidson Club of South Africa’s (HDCSA) Lowveld Chapter enjoyed a fun and highly successful White Overall Run in early December, commemorating an important piece of the club’s history.

A total of 10 Lowveld Harley Davidson riders started their White Overall Run at Nelspruit Crossing, rode around Mbombela, and to and through White River before stopping at Casterbridge and returning to Riverside to finish off their ride. It was a special day spent celebrating one of the HDCSA’s longest and history-rich traditions.

A slice of history
This year the Harley Davidson Club of South Africa marked 58 years of Harley history, passion and tradition. To honour the founding members of the HDCSA, chapters revived the 1970s tradition of riding with white overalls, also known as boiler suits. Back then, wearing white overalls proved to fellow riders that their Harleys leaked little to no oil, earning bragging rights until leaks inevitably appeared.

During that time it was totally forbidden to have any decoration on any part of the white overall. However, chapters are now in the fortunate position to have their club colours approved by the Harley-Davidson Motor Company.
