SANParks reopens parts of Kruger National Park as conditions improve

Kruger National Park has reopened additional gates and some facilities as conditions improve, although several camps, roads and areas remain closed while safety assessments continue.

The Kruger National Park has reopened additional gates and facilities as weather conditions improve across Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

According to SANParks spokesperson JP Louw, ongoing safety assessments have allowed overnight visitors to access the park through Phalaborwa Gate from January 26 and Phabeni Gate from today, January 27.

“Guests will use the S3 and S4 roads to connect to Pretoriuskop and Skukuza. Bateleur Bush Camp will reopen on January 27. Shops in the northern parts of the park will reopen as follows: the Punda Maria shop has already reopened, while shops in other areas will reopen before Friday, except for restaurants and swimming pools. Letaba and Shingwedzi rest camps, including Pafuri Border Post, remain inaccessible and closed,” he said.
Louw added that the Marula Region, as well as Biyamiti and Talamati bush camps, remain closed, while Satara Rest Camp and N’wanetsi Picnic Spot are open.
Orpen Gate remains inaccessible and may only be used by overnight guests, emergency services, and essential deliveries.

“SANParks strongly urges visitors not to remove barricades or attempt to access closed roads. These measures are in place to ensure visitor safety and to allow for continued infrastructure assessment and recovery work,” said Louw.

He added that gravel roads remain closed until further notice. The situation across the park continues to be monitored, and access restrictions will be reviewed as conditions improve and repairs progress.

Further updates will be communicated through official SANParks channels.

SANParks thanked all visitors for their co-operation and understanding during this recovery period.
