CoM finally makes good on some promises in Mbombela

The rehabilitation of Bosch Street will include resurfacing and resealing.

After years of mounting frustration from motorists and local business owners, one of the city’s most critical industrial arteries, Bosch Street, is finally undergoing long-overdue extensive rehabilitation.

The City of Mbombela (CoM) embarked on the Bosch Street resealing project on Friday, January 6.

This comes after experts warned that standard temporary pothole patching was no longer a viable solution.

For a large part of 2025, Bosch Street was described by road users and business owners as virtually impassable.

The recent heavy rainfall worsened the neglected road, turning small cracks into deep and dangerous holes, forcing drivers to veer into oncoming traffic.

According to CoM spokesperson Joseph Ngala, the current project will address a vital section of Bosch Street between the bus stop near Dobson & Dobson and the old cemetery.

“Unlike previous quick-fix attempts, this operation involves resurfacing and resealing. The damaged top layers will be stripped to restore a smooth surface. This will improve the structure to deal with the high volume of heavy vehicles and industrial traffic in the area.”

As Bosch Street is a high-traffic zone, the municipal team will undertake repairs after-hours to ensure minimal disruption during the day.

“Motorists are warned that traffic flow will still be affected during the day as work progresses over the scheduled seven-day period. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution, adhere to temporary traffic signage and follow instructions of road personnel on-site,” Ngala said.

He encouraged residents to report faulty robots and streetlights, as well as potholes, to their ward councillors or to the municipal call centre on 0861 6266 2352.
