Emergency services responded to a light aircraft crash near Nelspruit Airfield and an investigation has been launched.

The Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (ARCC) was alerted via its Early Warning Network to a light aircraft accident in the vicinity of Nelspruit Airfield earlier this morning, February 14.

According to ARCC chief Gregory Critchley, first responders from SARZA, Emer-G-Med, and the SAPS arrived promptly at the scene.

The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, had already been transported privately to a local medical facility for treatment. No fatalities have been reported at this stage.

The accident site has been secured and formally handed over to SAPS and the Accident and Incident Investigation Division of the South African Civil Aviation Authority for an official investigation.

“The ARCC extends its best wishes for the pilot’s speedy recovery and expresses sincere gratitude to SARZA, Emer-G-Med, and SAPS for their swift and professional response,” Critchley said.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed that officers are currently at the scene gathering information, which will be handed over to the relevant stakeholders.
