Robbers grab jewellery worth thousands at Mbombela shopping centre

Five armed men entered the jewellery shop and demanded gold.

A jewellery shop, Violet and Rose Jewellery Co., was robbed in broad daylight around 10:00 yesterday morning at the Crossing Shopping Centre on March 13.

According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Jabu Ndubane, a man rang the bell to enter the shop and when the gate opened, five armed men wearing masks and hats ran into the store demanding gold.

“They had bags and took approximately R500 000 worth of jewellery. The suspects then fled in a BMW with a false number plate,” Ndubane explained.

The suspects could not be identified and no arrests have been made yet as police continue their investigation.

No one was harmed during the robbery and the shop shared a public statement on the incident.

“We want to reassure our community that no clients were present at the time and most importantly all members of our team are safe and unharmed. We are incredibly grateful for the care, concern, and support shown by so many. It truly means a great deal to us. The matter is currently in the hands of the authorities and we are cooperating fully with the investigation.”

Crossing Centre’s management team also said in a statement that they are fully cooperating.

“Centre Management security and FPS Security responded promptly, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and following standard protocol.”

The police continue their investigation.
