Medical intern found dead in Mbombela apartment

Authorities are investigating whether the death was accidental or self-inflicted.

A medical intern at Rob Ferreira Hospital in Mbombela was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his apartment on Sunday afternoon, March 29.

Mpumalanga Department of Health spokesperson Dumisani Malamule said the cause of death has not yet been determined.

“It is not clear whether his injuries was self-inflicted or accidental,” Malamule stated.

Police were called to the scene and have opened an inquest.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed that a forensic post-mortem will be conducted.

“An investigation is ongoing to establish the exact cause of death,” Ndubane said.
