Fuel forecast: Petrol could exceed R30, diesel over R41 next month
Another petrol price shock is set to rock the cradle in May, according to the latest data from the Central Energy Fund.
Motorist are possibly in for another fuel price shock in May.
This follows last week’s surge in petrol prices, which saw motorists storming petrol stations.
Increases
According to the latest data (April 6) from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), motorists could face an increase of more than R13 per litre for diesel.
The Citizen reports that the CEF’s under-recoveries also indicate that petrol prices may rise by more than R4.30 per litre, adding further strain on households and businesses.

CEF data shows that under-recoveries in petrol prices have now reached between R4.30 and R4.70 per litre, while diesel has surged to about R13.07 to R13.13 per litre.

Under-recoveries on illuminating paraffin are now amounting to R10.70 per litre.
Temporary relief
Earlier this month, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced a temporary R3 price relief on the fuel levy for April.

Unless the department absorbs the minor reduction for May, the R3 relief will also kick in, slightly easing the spike in fuel prices, according to The Citizen.
How much will fuel cost you?
Based on current projections and without any further fluctuations or interventions:
• A litre of 93 unleaded petrol may cost R30.35.
• 95 unleaded petrol may reach R31.06 per litre.
• The wholesale price of 0.05% (500 ppm) diesel could rise to R41.97 per litre.
• 0.005% (50 ppm) diesel may cost R42.24 per litre.
