“The driver reported that he crashed into the Mozambican truck, which was parked in the middle of the road after breaking down. According to him, he did not see the truck because visibility was poor due to mist, however, we will allow the police to conduct their own investigation regarding the accident,” Lubisi said.

Lubisi also sent a message of condolences to the bereaved family and wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured. He added that the company will provide the necessary support to all victims.

Meanwhile, Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, said an investigation is under way to determine the cause of the accident.

He also confirmed that the road has since been reopened to traffic.

He called on motorists not to park their vehicles in the middle of the road.

If a vehicle breaks down, the driver must provide a signal by placing a warning triangle where it is clearly visible to other motorists.

“All motorists need to drive slowly when the road is not visible to avoid accidents. They should rather stop on the side of the road if they cannot see where they are driving, for their own safety and that of those travelling with them,” he said.
