Congestion at the Lebombo Border has been reduced with the introduction of the KM7 holding facility.

South African Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy, and her Mozambican counterpart, João Jorge Matlombe, assessed operations at the Lebombo Border Post on April 7.

They also visited the KM7 truck facility, which is undergoing upgrades to improve traffic management and processing for commercial vehicles heading to Mozambique.

In recent years, traffic flow along the N4 towards Komatipoort and through the Lebombo Border Post has been a challenge due to the absence of dedicated holding facilities for commercial vehicles.

Creecy said trucks had queued for long periods to cross the border, creating safety concerns as they were often targeted by criminals.

She commended border officials for their efforts after no congestion was reported during this past Easter holiday.
