The Protea Hotel Nelspruit’s wine-and-dine evening transported guests to the valley of Slanghoek Cellar in the Western Cape on September 10.

Guests were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine and tasted a selection of red and white wines paired with a three-course meal prepared by the hotel’s restaurant.

Rich history

Brand ambassador Martin Strydom led the wine tasting and spoke about the wine farm and its 75-year history.

“The farm started in 1951 and took its name from Khoi-San legends about snakes in the area,” said Strydom.

Nestled in Worcester, the winery is more than 2 000ha and one of the biggest private wine producers in the country. This year, it harvested more than 44 000 tonnes of grapes.

Sweet ending

Lowvelders engaged and had fun learning about its unique wines and ended the evening on a sweet note with a glass of dessert wine.
