The congestion, particularly between Komatipoort and the Lebombo border, has caused significant delays for motorists and truck drivers travelling towards Mozambique.

Recent traffic reports indicated that some truck drivers were attempting to bypass the lengthy queues by driving into oncoming traffic, prompting concern over road safety and the need for increased traffic management in the area.

Traffic officials have been deployed along the affected section of the N4 as authorities work to manage the congestion and maintain the safe movement of vehicles.

While reports circulating on social media suggest that traffic has now cleared, there was no immediate official confirmation from TRAC N4, the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, or the Border Management Authority (BMA) confirming that the truck backlog has been resolved.

The distinction is important, as traffic may be moving in certain sections of the N4 while a backlog remains further towards the border.

The Lebombo Port of Entry is one of the busiest land-border crossings between South Africa and Mozambique, and congestion on the N4 can quickly have a knock-on effect on freight transport, local businesses, and motorists travelling between Komatipoort and the border.

Motorists heading towards Mozambique are therefore urged to remain cautious, allow additional travelling time, and follow instructions from traffic officials operating along the route.
