The office of the Public protector under threat

MJ Matemane of Praktiseer writes:

It is really worrisome and frightening to hear the members of the ruling party threaten the Public Protector’s office, Thuli Madonsela in particular. Let us take the recent utterances by the African National Congress Youth League (Ancyl) about Madonsela’s report on Hlaudi. This attack is followed by that of the Hlaudi Motsoeneng Coalition.

The latter intends on approaching president Zuma to fire Madonsela “for being so competent” in the execution of her duties. She is being labelled, wrongfully, as an agent of the Democratic Alliance (DA). Utterances of this nature are dangerous.

The report in question, it is alleged, found among others, that the person they are protecting, namely Motsoeneng, lied about having matric and that his appointment and salary progression were irregular. Ancyl and the Hlaudi Motsoeneng Coalition are in favour of these irregularities. It is high time that people should know the duties and the responsibilities of the office of the Public Protector. She does not go around scouting for cases.

They are reported to her office for investigation. She is there to protect those who are being discriminated by government officials or by the politicians. She is there to see to it that justice is done and not preached. This is the very office they are fighting against. My impression of the Public Protector is that she is such a humble and down to earth person.

I have never seen her puffed up. She is soft spoken. When she reports a case, she is state and accurate. Where does DA feature in this scene? Instead of resorting to name calling and lies these people must do a bit of introspection and correct themselves.
