High Flying

Well it’s back to business as usual, the holiday is over and we are moving on with real life. Not that it’s a bad thing – a break like this helps to take stock of all the wonderful amazing blessings we do have in our real life.

The holiday was exhilarating! Especially our trapeze swings! The whole family got to participate and yours truly even moved on to advanced and did a catch! Wow – it was one of the most amazing experiences. I’ve watched acrobats during circus performances and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have a go at it myself, some day.

I am most proud of hubby. Daniel and I are adrenaline freaks! We love anything fast and high. Dax was petrified, but after watching another very nervous man take on the daunting epic, he decided that he would regret it for the rest of his life if he didn’t at least try – and up he went!

He climbed the endless ladder to the top (he had already broken out in a cold sweat because of the height, never mind dangling from his legs and letting go – swinging through the sky).

But he did it, first time! Then my 5-year-old son climbed that ladder without a shudder and swung high up in the sky like he had been doing it all his life. I felt such pride for my brave boys that day!

You start off on a flimsy platform, easily about 12 meters high, with two cables hooked to a belt strap. The endless ladder to this platform goes on for a while, very thin and you have to change sides half way up. Once up there, you are guided with one hand on the trapeze, the other on a thin little pole next to you, you are hoisted from behind, told to bend your knees, then they utter the word ‘hip’ – you jump and viola!

Next minute you are swinging through the sky holding onto the trapeze! I thought this was the whole deal, and when Cassie told me to hook my legs over the bar, I thought she was joking. We had watched others do it, but were under the impression that everyone had gone a couple of times before attempting the tricks.

But no, I had to hoist the legs up, dangle down and arch my back, hands hanging free! Wow! It was a most incredible feeling. When I came down I was told I need to do two more practices then I’m moving on to the advanced catch… What? Really? Now? Today? Yip – so after two practice rounds and hitting my shins really hard on that flimsy platform, up I went to do a catch.

Well, there were about 5 of us doing the ‘advanced’ catch – and only two of us managed the first attempt. I think it had more to do with the amazing skill of the gentleman who caught us, but two of us did it! Big time points for the only two girls!
Our family loved this holiday, not only because of the setting, but because of all the activities.

Our family walked away with 4 medals and three certificates! Dax was our sports star and because we all participated in tennis, badmington, table tennis, water aerobics, archery and of course, the trapeze, we walked away with various awards at their prize giving!

The whole experience was rewarding, made us all feel good and we are already thinking about going back there again next year. It felt like a home away from home, and we made many new friends and felt so welcome.

Thanks Ablion – for a truly fulfilling experience! We absolutely loved every minute of it!
