Nowadays the police are subjected to severe criticisms from several fronts, so it is with great respect that I want share a simple incident where a member of the Mbombela SAPS in absolutely excelled in service delivery.
On Monday at around 13:00 I frequented the local SAPS station to verify some documents I needed. Upon my arrival I noticed a few ladies in the charge office and two young constables certifying documents and I thought I was lucky with so few people whom needed assistance. I was however brusquely informed by one of the constables on duty to join the queue of about 20 people, all waiting for their documents to be certified. All of them were youngsters and I duly joined the back of the line. The next moment I was approached by a black man in civilian clothes who informed me “it is not allowed for veterans to stand in line to be served”.
I could not believe what I heard but he repeated his statement and asked me to follow him to the desk. He told me, loud enough for everyone to hear, “You are an old man, a veteran and should enjoy your life in stead of waiting in a queue to be served.” He then certified my documents and send me on my way.
I have learned that this gentleman is WO TJ Sambo and I can only speak with the greatest respect regarding the manner in which he had treated me. He is an absolute star and great ambassador for the Mbombela Police.
