Undercover policemen

Wherever they are, they aren't where they are supposed to be, and that is principally protecting the general public.

This week I want to ask you all a very pertinent question: “When did you last see a policeman on the streets of Mbombela?”
You see, last week a very irate gentleman rang me and said he had been robbed four times in as many months! Of course, I immediately thought of the Guinness World Records.
“What can we do about it?” he asked. I must admit he had been having some rotten luck, so I answered his question with another, “By the same person?”
“No, no, I’ve been robbed in my house, mugged opposite the police station, had my car broken into, and now to crown it all, they`ve broken into my house again.”
Since I took his call, I must admit that despite my search for a bobby in the streets of this fair town, I haven`t found one! Now I ask you, is this good enough? Policemen, it seems are as scarce as a decent public convenience. Both essential to life, and both are absent for the average guy in the street.
Working undercover did come to mind, too much telly perhaps, but the thing is, where the heck are they? Lurking in the parks for the odd flasher. Or perhaps bound to their desks beneath a mountain of paperwork?
Wherever they are, they aren’t where they are supposed to be, and that is principally protecting the general public.
Come on you lads of the police service, how about a bit of exposure, don`t just sit there waiting for the phone to ring. You`d be surprised how a smart- looking uniform and a polished pair of boots can deter the average street criminal, not to mention a pistol in a holster! We all feel safer having you around, believe me.
