Take the perfect profile picture – here’s how

It's the online world's version of a first impression. Your profile picture should be perfect.

MBOMBELA – In this day and age, you can meet someone without meeting them.  Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Pinterest are only a few of the social media platforms that connect people every day.  Your profile pictures on these platforms need to be perfect, as this is the online world’s version of a first impression.

Lowvelder compiled a list of things that you need to take into consideration when taking your perfect picture.

  • Never use a low resolution image.  Your profile picture should not be a bunch of pixels.  It looks as if you have no idea how to use a computer.  Be sure to have a picture with a minimum resolution of 400 x 600 pixels.

  • Avoid sunlight or overhead light.  This may create shadows under your eyes and nose, which is not very flattering.

  • Consistency is key.  If you change your profile picture every day, people will get confused.  Keep it simple.
  • Try to avoid a selfie.  Ask someone to take the photo for you.  Your expressions will be more natural when you are interacting with the photographer.
  • It’s about your face.  The point of a profile picture is identification.  Refrain from using images of any body part that you feel you’ve been blessed with.

  • Remember that your boss has Facebook.  If you’re not going report to the office scantily clad, don’t do it on Facebook either.  Keep your clothes on.

  • Have fun.  Instagram offers a wide range of filters that can jazz up any photo, making you look like an artist.
