I watched with sadness last week Friday when I saw all the glitz and glamour at the useless SOPA, where government officials call themselves VIPs.

My first question was that is it necessary to have the red carpet?

Let alone all the fancy decorations, refreshments and probably fancy foods.

Our government was busy splashing money on this fashion show while voters sit at home with no jobs, no water and have been waiting for RDP houses for over 10 years.

Eskom is threatening to cut the power of some municipalities for non-payment.

A lot of security personnel ranging from SAPS, traffic to SANDF members were deployed to protect politicians, yet farmers and others citizens are butchered in their homes all the time and no action has been taken by the government.

My understanding is that the voters should be the VIPs and the politicians should be servants of the VIPs, but this whole thing seems to be twisted around.

When they call voters to community meetings they do not roll-out the red carpet, nor do they provide refreshments which means voters are not important.

Can somebody give me the logic behind the red carpet?

My parting words to our politicians is that they should enjoy it while it lasts, because come 2019 we will punish you at the polling stations.
