Reader’s letter: An open letter to our president, Zuma

Ivyn Sambo writes:

Dear Mr President,
I write this letter as a representative of a concerned group of young people in South Africa.

Mr President, you always said you are open to talk and to listen to your people, I am now inviting you to take your word into action.

I request a meeting with you to talk about the state of South Africa and your dream and vision for it now. I wish to understand your mindset and the way forward for our country, which I think you will agree is deeply conflicted at present.

As a young person, I am deeply troubled by the corruption and our poor economic growth. Growing up I looked up to you and your leadership, I believed in you.

I come from a family which strongly supports you (they still do) but I feel as though you have failed us and I would like to talk to you and get a better understanding of South Africa right now from your perspective.

Our country is on the verge of a serious political crisis, in part because of your leadership and ideas about South Africa.

I am a person who always sees good, I am open to new ideas and I still believe that there is good in our country and that it can grow and prosper.

As a standing leader of South Africa I wish to understand your decisions to stay in power after the larger call for you to resign, and I wish to know your vision for the country and why don’t you come out and be open about the corruption issues in our beautiful country and take the necessary steps to get us back on track.

I feel as though your leadership has created deep divisions in our country and we no longer work to create a better nation for all. As a young person, this affects my future and I am concerned.

Are you willing to stand up for our nation and for all South Africans?

I look forward to gaining a better understanding of your actions and the impact they are having on my country.
