Young athletes make Tubatse proud

Phomelelo Makofane obtained positian two in the Under 12''s cross country race.

GA RIBA- Bathopele athletics clubs are rookies, but their achievements speak volumes. The talented team was formed in April and already they have garnered support from most locals – they are on every sport fanatic’s lips.

Since its inception the team participated in four leagues across the province and in inter provincial championships in Rustenburg. Ten of their athletes also took part in the National championships held in Potchefstroom last month.

Phomelelo Makofane (12) was one of the stars of the tournament as she flew Tubatse’s flag high. She obtained position two in the under 12s cross-country race, winning herself a silver medal.

Lerato Malepe came third in the girls under 11 cross-country, scooping a bronze medal for her efforts.

Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News, Tshepo Maphake, manager of the club, was delighted with its achievements.

“We were not fully prepared and that led to our downfall, had we started the club early in the year, our team would have came first in all competitions.”
