Tubatse Chrome Golf Club raises awareness for cancer

The Tubatse Chrome Golf Club hosted the annual CANSA Golf day on Saturday June 7.

This extravaganza which is arguably South Africa’s largest charitable sporting event, was attended by golfers from as far as Pilgrim’s Rest, Hazyview and Lydenburg.

Local amateur golfers also had an opportunity to perfect their golfing prowess in the name of charity.

The entry fee was R150 per player. Martin van Rooyen, organiser, highlighted that the day was planned for cancer awareness.
He added that all the money raised would be utilised in the fight against this disease.

“We invite everyone to join us in the fight against cancer, our golf club involve both men and women,” Van Rooyen told Steelburger/Lydenburg News.

As early as 08:30, the golfers took to the greens in groups of four.

“We were happy with the support we received in the 2014 series, and we are hoping to make more money for CANSA. Sanlam and CANSA have been partnering in the Sanlam Cancer Challenge since 1993,” said Van Rooyen.

The purpose of the challenge is to raise funds and awareness annually for the fight against cancer.

Close to 40 000 golfers play in more than 800 club competitions held around the country in support of CANSA’s prevention programmes and patient-care support throughout the year.
