Entries double for Mozma’s race
About 100 runners participated in the 21km and 130 in the 10km runs.
Close on 300 runners braved the early morning chill to run the 30th Mozma’s Race hosted by the Legogote Villagers. This was a milestone event for the club as this 21km race was the very first hosted by it after it was established in August 1984.
Participants could choose between a 5km fun run, and a 10- or 21km race. The 5km was very popular this year, with double the number of entries compared with last year.
Beginners, families with small children, women pushing prams and people and their dogs enjoyed the route winding through the beautiful Lowveld landscape. About 100 runners participated in the 21km and 130 in the 10km runs.
The runners had very good times, with Tebogo Pulusa of the Dwarsriver Marathon Club breaking the record for the fastest time with 1:08:56 in the 21km. Ntuthuko Maseko of Nedbank LVCC came second in 1:10:36 and Bheki Nkosi of Born to Win third in 1:18:14.
The first woman to cross the finish line was Nontukoso Dlamini of Nedbank LVCC in 1:31:35, second was Allison Hay of Nelspruit Marathon Club in 1:40:36 and Elsa de Beer, also of the same club, came third in 1:43:28.
In the 10km event, William Mothosane of Nedbank LVCC came first in 34:07, Thabo Ndlobu of Run/Walk for Life was second in 35:12 and Frans Phehli of Dwarsrivier MC was third in 36:38. Among the females, Sibongile Mlombo of Legogote Villagers proved to be the fastest in a time of 52:27. Shannon Whittal was second in 53:32 and Charlien Lourens third in 56:03.
Each participant was awarded a medal at the end of the race and could win prizes like caps, T-shirts and vouchers in a lucky draw.
Legogote Villagers plans to make next year’s race even bigger and more successful thanks to a new sponsorship by Mozma’s Cleaning.
