Self-defence now much more practical
Krav Maga is the most practical form of self-defence which veteran martial-arts instructor, Awie Davis says he has ever encountered.

For this reason he brought over an instructor at the first opportunity.
Last weekend Gil Drucker presented a seminar in the Israeli martial arts, which he had studied at school, in the army and afterwards.
He has also been instructing and accrediting the Wolves Martial Arts Academy instructors. Henceforth Awie and Xander Davis are both qualified to teach Krav Maga to students.
“In previous cases of teaching self-defence, I always wondered whether it would help. Now I am confident that the students will be able to defend themselves on the street,” Awie told Lowvelder.
The reason is that Krav Maga is so practical and is quicker. It teaches the student to immediately get out of an assailant’s grip in the easiest way possible and then incapacitate the assailant. Drucker, who runs his own school, GDKM in Haifa, Israel, explains that the technique is battle-tested and it is little wonder that it gave the Israeli army the hand-combat reputation it holds. His qualifications are approved by the national sports and education ministries.
“The premise of Krav Maga is to have the fastest response in the minimum time to disarm or overcome your opponent. Its focus is on reflexive movements and the technique works for everybody, women and
children included.”
Wolves Academy will henceforth offer classes in Krav Maga. Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:30 to 20:00 or Fridays at 15:30 to 17:00. Drucker will still be in town this weekend for a second seminar before returning home.
