Youngsters take the lead in Das Auto
Youngster dominated in the fourth Das Auto offroad mountain biking event at Penryn on Saturday.
It was an overcast grim morning when 314 cyclists lined up for the fourth Das Auto cycle race. They started off on Penryn College’s sport field, did a loop on the schoolyard and then embarked on an off-road adventure in the fields beyond.
Dian Venter won the 50km race in a time of 01.55:05. He was followed by sub veterans Hennie Kriek (01.55:09) and Johan van Tonder (01.55:28) in third. Sean de Klerk (01.55:43) came in fourth.
Veteran males came in next with Truwin Laas (01.59:45) in fifth and Ben Coetzee (02.03:59) sixth.
The fastest woman was veteran Ruth Le Roux with a time of 02.31:07, followed by Ananda Bosch with a time of 02.35:51.
In the 25km race, 17-year-old Blessing Moima emerged victorious with a time of 58:49. He was followed by Reghardt Wiehman (01.00:09), Bongani Ngwana (01.02:55) and Klaas Phillimon Sebanyeni (01.03:01).
Kirsten Gillespie was the first woman to finish (01.13:29) followed by Karin Cilliers (01.19:08) and Wendy de Beer (01.22:59).
Kids dominated the 15km race. 13-year-olds Emile Fourie (38:03) and Mike Odendaal (39:54) was first and second respectively followed by 14 year-old Charles Erasmus (40:58) in third.
Among the women, 14-year-old Jayde Clarke’s 50:15 earned her 17th position overall with 11-year-old Ainsli de Beer (51:27) finishing second among the women and 19th overall and 13-year-old Megan Wiehman (57:19) ending 31st overall.
