Aces achieve their first win

Amazayoni displayed their true class and killer instinct in this midweek PSL clash with two goals by Collins Mbesuma and Aubrey Ngoma, guiding them to three valuable away points.

It was only a matter of time before the talented Mpumalanga Black Aces team got the losing monkey off their back. Victory could not have been sweeter for Clive Barker’s charges after a well deserved 2-1 victory over SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

Amazayoni displayed their true class and killer instinct in this midweek PSL clash with two goals by Collins Mbesuma and Aubrey Ngoma, guiding them to three valuable away points.

Earlier, Zimbabwean striker Tendai Ndoro had a wonderful opportunity to open Aces scoring but fluffed his chances when it looked easier to score. This miss did not deter Aces as they gradually took control of the match with a well calculated possession game.

United’s ever- dangerous Sibusiso Khumalo was one of the standout performers for Matsatsantsa, with winger Thuso Phala mesmerising the Aces defence with his blistering pace.

This did not deter Barker’s boys as they came back into the match after the second half with extra verve and vision.

Thabang Rooi provided much of this spark and duly set up the first goal of the match with an expert cross that evaded Supersport’s defence and gave Mbesuma an easy tap-in.

SuperSport’s defence and goalkeeping was lacklustre the entire match and they could be deemed lucky that they did not leak more goals as the score remained in reaching distance of the men from Pretoria.

Midfielder, Ngoma added Aces second goal after a powerful shot beat Ronwyn Williams with ease. The United keeper had no answer and could only retrieve the ball from the back of the net.

United did pull back a goal through Dove Wome, but for SuperSport coach, Calvin Johnson, it was a case of too little too late.

Aces are now in 11th position on the PSL log and have escaped the dreaded relegation zone for the time being.

The win puts the men from Mpumalanga’s capital in good stead for their next feature against the University of Pretoria (Tuks FC) at home, where familiar conditions may prove the difference between the sides.
